A suspected serial killer identified as Umar Auwal, also known as “Abba Dujal,” has voluntarily surrendered himself to the Kano State Police Command, confessing to multiple violent crimes, including murder, armed robbery, and theft.
The Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed this in a statement released on Tuesday titled “Surrender of a Suspected Killer to Kano State Police Command.”
According to the statement, the 20-year-old suspect, a resident of Wudil Local Government Area in Kano State, walked into a police station and demanded to be locked up, confessing his involvement in various criminal activities across Kano and neighboring Jigawa State.
“The Kano State Police Command announces the surrender of a 20-year-old Umar Auwal, alias ‘Abba Dujal,’ who confessed to his involvement in multiple violent crimes in the state and its environs,” the statement read.
“This development follows sustained clearance raid operations conducted by the Command at strategic locations in the state to rid it of criminal elements and ensure protection of life and property of citizens.”

Umar Auwal’s confessions include:
i. Sabon Gari Quarters, Kano: Auwal admitted to stabbing a man known as “Boka” to death and stealing his Infinix Hot 40i mobile phone, which he later sold for ₦40,000.
ii. Kurna Quarters, Kano: He confessed to stabbing another individual to death and stealing a Samsung S26 smartphone, which he sold for ₦160,000.
iii. Ringim LGA, Jigawa State: Auwal also revealed that he killed a man and made away with his motorcycle, later selling it for ₦300,000.
Following his confession, the suspect is currently being held at the command’s homicide section within the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), where further investigations are ongoing to verify his statements and uncover possible accomplices or additional crimes.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, expressed appreciation for Auwal’s decision to turn himself in, describing it as a positive step toward justice.

He called on other individuals involved in criminal activities to emulate Auwal’s actions and surrender themselves to authorities.
“Criminals will have no hiding place in Kano State,” CP Bakori emphasized. “We urge all who are involved in crime to repent and surrender, as no stone will be left unturned in our fight to curtail criminal activities across the state.”
The Command reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents in Kano and beyond.
