Famous Kwara-born Islamic singer and cleric Ibraheem Abdulhameed, popularly known as “Labaeka,” has resigned from his position as the Special Assistant to Kwara State Governor on Artiste Matters.

Alhaji Labaeka announced his decision by sharing his resignation letter on his official Instagram page on Thursday, September 12, 2024.

In the letter, dated the same day and addressed to Governor Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq, Labaeka expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve but explained that he was unable to perform his role effectively. He noted that after serving for one year and seven months, he had not been given a clear schedule of duties.

Labaeka further explained that his appointment was based on public trust, and he could no longer accept a salary without contributing meaningfully to the administration.

“I cannot continue to break that trust by taking a salary for doing nothing,” Labaeka wrote. He added that as an Islamic cleric, receiving payment without fulfilling his duties went against his beliefs, and he had not been at peace with himself.

The singer concluded by requesting that his salary be stopped immediately and expressed hope that he would one day be able to fully utilize his talents for the development of Kwara State.

Labaeka had been appointed on January 6, 2023, as Special Assistant on Artiste Matters, a role he accepted to showcase his talents and serve the state. However, due to the lack of defined responsibilities, he has chosen to step down from the position.
