In a heart-wrenching incident, the Secretary to the Sokoto State Government, Alhaji Muhammadu Bello Sifawa, has suffered a devastating loss following a fire that claimed the lives of his daughter and three grandchildren.

The tragedy occurred in the early hours of Monday, January 6, 2025, in Sifawa town, Bodinga Local Government Area.

The inferno engulfed the residence of Alhaji Sifawa’s daughter, Rabiatu, who was married to Alhaji Muhammadu Yusuf Bello, the Permanent Secretary of the Sokoto State Ministry of Sports and Youth Development.

The fire, which broke out as the family slept, also claimed the life of the housemaid. Miraculously, Alhaji Muhammadu Yusuf Bello was the sole survivor of the blaze.

Eyewitnesses reported that the fire spread rapidly, leaving little chance for escape. Firefighters worked tirelessly to bring the flames under control, but the destruction was already severe. Authorities have since launched an investigation to determine the cause of the blaze.

The remains of the victims were laid to rest today at the Sheikh Shehu Usmanu Danfodiyo Mosque in Sifawa.

The funeral drew a large crowd of mourners, including government officials, family members, and residents of the community, who gathered to offer prayers and express their condolences.

Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State has expressed his profound sadness over the tragedy, describing it as a monumental loss not only to the Sifawa family but also to the entire state.

For now, the state mourns alongside Alhaji Muhammadu Bello Sifawa and his family, offering prayers for strength and comfort in the face of this unimaginable loss.
