Six Lakurawa Terrorists, Five Soldiers Killed In Fierce Gun Battle

Troops of the Defence Headquarters Special Operations Brigade have successfully conducted a coordinated offensive operation against Lakurawa terrorists in Gudu Local Government Area of Sokoto State, killing six suspects.

The operation, which took place on Thursday, January 16, 2025, was announced by the Coordinator of the Joint Media Coordination Centre, Operation Fansan Yamma, Lt. Col. Abubakar Abdullahi.

According to Lt. Col. Abdullahi, the operation resulted in an intense firefight that led to the recovery of significant arms and ammunition.

“The troops recovered the following items from the operation: four AK-47 rifles, 160 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and one box of 12.7mm ammunition,” he said in a statement.

However, the operation came at a heavy cost, as five soldiers tragically lost their lives in the line of duty. “Despite this success, the operation came at a heavy cost, as five gallant soldiers tragically lost their lives in the line of duty,” Lt. Col. Abdullahi noted, expressing deep sorrow over the loss of the brave men.

He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by reporting any suspicious activities related to terrorism or security threats in the Gudu LGA and surrounding areas.

“Public cooperation is crucial for protecting lives and maintaining peace in our communities,” he added.

The Defence Headquarters also emphasized the importance of community engagement in ensuring the safety and security of the region.

Residents are encouraged to play an active role in supporting military and law enforcement efforts to combat terrorism and safeguard their communities.
