The Kano State House of Assembly has been thrown into deep mourning following the death of two of its members, Hon. Aminu Saad Ungogo and Hon. Sarki Aliyu Daneji, who passed away within hours of each other on Wednesday, December 24, 2025.

Hon. Ungogo, who represented Ungogo Constituency and served as Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, reportedly died at the Assembly complex after a brief illness while on active duty.

Confirming his death in a statement, the spokesperson to the Speaker, Kamaluddeen Sani Shawai, said the lawmaker passed away in the course of his legislative responsibilities.

“The late Hon. Ungogo died while in active duty at the Kano State House of Assembly. He is survived by his wife and children,” the statement read.

Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Jibril Falgore, expressed deep sorrow over the loss, condoling with the family of the deceased, his constituents, and fellow lawmakers. He described Ungogo’s death as an irreplaceable loss to the Assembly and the people of Kano State.

“Hon. Ungogo’s death comes at a critical time when Kano citizens needed him most,” Falgore said.

Barely hours after Ungogo’s passing, tragedy struck again with the death of Hon. Sarki Aliyu Daneji, who represented Kano Municipal Constituency.

The Director-General, Media and Public Relations, Government House, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, confirmed Daneji’s death to journalists, though details surrounding his passing were not immediately disclosed.

The sudden demise of the two lawmakers in quick succession has plunged the Kano State House of Assembly into grief, with lawmakers, party members, and constituents expressing shock and sadness over the tragic development.

Tributes have continued to pour in from across the state, as many described the late legislators as dedicated public servants whose deaths leave a significant void in Kano’s political landscape.
