Abdulrasheed Maina, former chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Task Team, has been hospitalised in Abuja after collapsing on Tuesday.
According to a statement issued Wednesday by his media assistant, Emmanuel Ekwe, the incident occurred as Maina attempted to access his office.
Ekwe said complications from an untreated knee injury caused him to lose balance, fall, and hit his head on a staircase.
Grassroots Parrot reports that medical personnel administered first aid at the scene before he was rushed to a private hospital in Abuja for urgent treatment.
Ekwe added that Maina is currently under close medical supervision, while doctors have advised that an air ambulance evacuation may be considered if his condition does not stabilise quickly. His family has appealed for privacy.

Maina is known for his controversial tenure leading the Presidential Task Force on Pension Reforms and the corruption case that followed. In November 2021, a Federal High Court in Abuja convicted him of laundering N2.1 billion linked to pension funds and sentenced him to eight years in prison. The Court of Appeal upheld the conviction in May 2023, including asset forfeiture.
He was, however, released from the Kuje Correctional Centre on February 25, 2025, after serving part of his sentence, with the Nigerian Correctional Service citing statutory remission for good conduct, calculated from his arrest in October 2019.
Since his release, Maina has largely stayed out of public view, though public interest in his activities remains high due to the scale of the pension scandal.
