The Federal Government has approved a N5 billion donation to support traders affected by the devastating fire that destroyed parts of the Singer Market in Kano last Saturday.
Grassroots Parrot reports that the gesture was announced on Monday by Vice-President Kashim Shettima during a sympathy visit to the market.
The fire outbreak, which occurred last week, razed shops and goods worth billions of naira, leaving hundreds of traders counting their losses.
Describing the incident as a national tragedy, Shettima said the disaster was not only a loss to Kano State but to the entire country.

He was accompanied on the visit by the governors of Jigawa, Kebbi, and Imo states. The vice-president also offered prayers for the victims and sought divine protection against a recurrence of such incidents.
Speaking on behalf of the traders, the Chairman of the Singer Market Traders Association, Junaid Zakari, expressed appreciation to the Federal Government for what he described as a timely and generous intervention.
He assured that the funds would be judiciously utilised to assist affected traders and revive business activities in the historic market.
