Some students of Ebira Muslim Community College Okengwe (EMCCO) in Okene Local Government Area of Kogi State have reportedly attacked and beaten a teacher, Mr. Muktar Salihu, into a coma.

The students, alleged to be members of a cult group, are said to be in Senior Secondary School 2 (SS2).

The incident, which has sparked outrage, reportedly occurred as part of a broader plan by the group to assert dominance over the college.

The alleged leader of the group, identified as Abdulbatin, is said to be the son of the Opokitipo of the Esusu clan, a traditional ruler in Okengwe district of Okene council area.

Sources revealed that Mr. Salihu, a Physics teacher, was subjected to humiliation and physical assault by the group.

Following the attack, the teacher lost consciousness and was rushed to an undisclosed hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.

A fellow teacher at the school, who spoke on condition of anonymity, has called for urgent intervention from relevant authorities.

“We urge the State Ministry of Education, State Education Board, the security agencies, and other relevant authorities to urgently swing into action with a view to bring the perpetrators to book, forestall future occurrences, and instill discipline in our schools and colleges,” the teacher stated.

The incident has drawn the attention of the District Police Officer in the area, who has reportedly directed the traditional ruler to ensure his son’s appearance for questioning.

According to sources, the traditional ruler has been given until tomorrow to produce Abdulbatin to law enforcement authorities.
