The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has revealed the party’s ambition to take over Rivers State in the 2027 general elections.

Ganduje made this declaration on Saturday in Port Harcourt during the inauguration of the newly elected state executives of the party, led by Chief Tony Okocha.

Ganduje, accompanied by 16 members of the APC National Working Committee (NWC), emphasized the importance of internal democracy and membership expansion within the party.

He urged the newly inaugurated executives to ensure peace and stability while strengthening the party’s presence in the state.

“You are to ensure that there is internal democracy,” Ganduje stated. “You are to ensure that there are more entrants into the party.

Use your political dexterity to ensure that our party is growing from strength to strength. It is your responsibility to ensure that there is peace and stability.”

Reflecting on the party’s past successes in the South-South region, Ganduje highlighted the APC’s achievements under successive administrations.

“During the Buhari administration, we were able to take one state, Cross River, from the PDP to the APC. During President Ahmed Bola Tinubu’s administration, we won squarely in Edo State.

Out of six states in the region, we have recovered two. Rivers State is our next target, and bringing it to the APC fold is a task that must be done,” he declared.

In his acceptance speech, Chief Tony Okocha expressed confidence in the party’s ability to secure Rivers State in the next general election. He assured the national leadership of the APC of the executives’ commitment to the party’s goals.

“In league with my friends, members of the state executive council of the party, and the teeming membership of APC in Rivers State, we assure you that in 2027, the story will be different.

APC will take the rostrum there,” Okocha affirmed. “The man who is the governor today in Rivers State has no party. Our constitution does not allow independent candidacy. APC will take the rostrum, we assure you.”
