The Rivers State Government has officially approved a new minimum wage of N85,000 for civil servants, marking a significant increase aimed at improving workers’ welfare.

This approval was granted by Governor Siminalayi Fubara during a closed-door meeting with labor leaders and senior government officials.

Announcing the decision, George Nwaeke, the state’s Head of Service, confirmed that the implementation of the new wage structure would take immediate effect.

The Chairman of the Joint Negotiation Team, Chukwu Emecheta, commended Governor Fubara for fulfilling the expectations of workers in Rivers State.

In his remarks, Alex Agwanwor, Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Rivers State, expressed gratitude for the new wage, noting that it will help alleviate the economic pressures faced by civil servants.

Further details on the implementation process and other related developments are expected soon.
