Electricity has been restored to Plateau, Bauchi, Gombe, and Benue states under the Jos Electricity Distribution (JED) franchise, following a prolonged blackout that left residents without power for over a week.
Power was restored around 7:20 p.m. on Wednesday, prompting celebrations in Jos, the capital of Plateau State as reported by Daily Trust.
The outage, which affected several northern states, stemmed from the tripping of the 330kV transmission line between Benue and Enugu states.
The disruption had severely impacted social and economic activities, prompting President Bola Tinubu to intervene.

Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, said that Tinubu led efforts to resolve the issue, summoning the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, and National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.
Tinubu expressed concern over the vandalism and damage to power infrastructure, which contributed to the blackout.
To safeguard the restoration work, the President directed Ribadu to coordinate with the Army and Air Force to deploy security personnel and aerial cover to protect engineers at the repair sites.
Tinubu also called on community leaders to support security efforts, stressing the government’s commitment to preventing future sabotage.
This recent restoration marks a significant relief for residents and businesses in the affected states, who rely on electricity for daily operations and economic activities.
