The Borno State Police Command has faulted reports that the Nigerian Army arrested a suspected suicide bomber in the state, describing the claims as misinformation and insisting that the suspect was apprehended by the police with no active improvised explosive device (IED) recovered.
The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Daso, said the suspect, identified as Abubakar, is currently in police custody and was arrested during a police surveillance operation around a mosque in Banki, Bama Local Government Area, on December 29, 2025.
According to him, items recovered from the suspect—electrical wires, old phone batteries, gadget scraps, and shoes—did not indicate any primed or active IED.
This clarification contradicts an earlier statement by the Media Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai, Lt.-Col. Sani Uba, who claimed that troops arrested a suspected suicide bomber with materials intended for IED fabrication.

Recall that on Tuesday night, troops of Operation Hadin Kai arrested a suspected suicide bomber, identified as Abubakar Mustapha, in Borno State.
The Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, North-East Operation Hadin Kai, Lt.-Col. Sani Uba, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday.
According to him, the suspect was arrested on Monday by troops of the 152 Task Force Battalion, in collaboration with other security agencies, in Bama Local Government Area of the state.
However, the police warned the public against spreading unverified information capable of causing panic, stressing that investigations are ongoing and that accurate updates will come from official sources.
