A tragic incident has rocked the Nasarawa State Police Command as a police constable, identified as Dogara Akolo-Moses, took his own life at the Mada Station Division in Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area.

According to Daily Trust, the officer was seen performing his duties earlier on the same day he ended his life.

A witness recounted that the late officer went into a private room within the station premises and shot himself. The loud gunshot alerted his colleagues, who rushed to the scene, only to find him lying in a pool of blood with his service weapon beside him.

“Colleagues of the deceased who were outside the apartment heard the gunshot, prompting them to rush inside, where they found the officer lying on the floor with his gun beside him,” a source disclosed.

The motive behind the tragic act remains unknown as of the time of filing this report. However, the Nasarawa State Police Command has launched an investigation to determine the circumstances leading to the suicide.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the command, Ramhan Nansel, stated that authorities are looking into the case to unravel the reason behind the officer’s sudden decision.

The tragic event has sent shockwaves through the police force and the local community, raising concerns about the mental well-being of officers in service.

More details are expected to emerge as investigations progress.
