In a major crackdown on illegal medical practices and child trafficking, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command has uncovered an unauthorized maternity home in Usung Atiat, Abak Local Government Area.

The operation led to the rescue of seven pregnant women and five infants, aged between two weeks and one year, believed to have been taken from different parts of the state.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, the illegal facility was raided following credible intelligence, leading to the arrest of one Patience Ene Jimmy, who was allegedly running the operation.

A search of the premises revealed various medical supplies, including syringes, drip lines, and immunization records, for which the suspect had no legal authorization.

Authorities believe the facility may have been involved in child trafficking and unlawful medical procedures.

The rescued women and children have been placed under protective care while investigations continue to uncover potential accomplices and ensure justice is served.

The statement quoted the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, as reaffirming the Command’s commitment to tackling illegal activities that endanger vulnerable individuals.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to law enforcement authorities.
