The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested 19-year-old Aliyu Yaro for allegedly killing his three-day-old baby in Mubi Local Government Area.

The command’s spokesperson, CSP Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Saturday, November 9, 2024, following a report from the infant’s mother, who is Yaro’s girlfriend.

According to Nguroje, Yaro confessed during police interrogation, leading authorities to the site where he had buried the newborn.

The statement detailed that Yaro, a resident of Kwacham ward in Mubi North, had fathered the child with his girlfriend, Safiya, who reported the incident after she discovered her baby’s disappearance.

Yaro allegedly visited his girlfriend’s home at night, asking her to fetch water. While she was away, he took the baby and later buried him at Girpata area around 9:00 p.m.

The police exhumed the remains of the baby after Yaro led them to the location where he buried him.

Adamawa Commissioner of Police, Morris Dankombo, expressed deep concern over the incident and ordered that the case be transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further investigation and prosecution.
