Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in a dramatic political development ahead of the party’s 2026 gubernatorial primaries.
Adeleke’s resignation was contained in a letter dated November 4, 2025, and addressed to the PDP Ward Chairman of Ward 2, Sagba Abogunde, Ede, his political base. The letter was made available to the press on Monday.
In the correspondence titled “Resignation of My Membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)”, the governor attributed his decision to the ongoing internal crisis rocking the national leadership of the party.
“Due to the current crisis of the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), I hereby resign my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party with immediate effect,” the letter read.

Adeleke expressed gratitude to the PDP for providing him the platform that saw him elected first as a Senator representing Osun West, and later as Governor of Osun State.
“I thank the Peoples Democratic Party for the opportunities given to me for my elections as a Senator (Represented Osun West) and as Governor of Osun State under the Peoples Democratic Party,” he added.
The governor’s resignation has already triggered speculations about his next political move, with analysts debating whether he will defect to another party ahead of the 2026 governorship election or rally a new political structure.
As of press time, the PDP in Osun State is yet to issue an official response to the governor’s shocking departure.
