The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has called on Nigerians to remain patient with President Bola Tinubu’s administration as the nation navigates through difficult times.
Ahead of his seven-day seclusion for prayer and communion with his ancestors, the monarch expressed concern over the economic hardships many citizens are enduring.
In a statement released on Monday by his spokesperson, Moses Olafare, Oba Ogunwusi acknowledged the struggles of Nigerians, describing the current situation as a trying period for the nation.
The monarch, however, expressed optimism that the challenges would soon pass, calling on youths to exercise patience and avoid actions that could harm the country.

“This time around, I want to pray and seek the face of our Creator to intervene in the current economic situation,” the Ooni stated. “Things are very tough and people are feeling the hardship. I want to pray for all and urge the youths to be patient so we do not use our hands to destroy our country.”
The Ooni noted that his seclusion, which is part of the traditional rites preceding the annual Olojo Festival, is a sacred moment that allows him to interact with his ancestors and pray for the well-being of the nation.
The week-long period is marked by reflection, silence, and spiritual cleansing, during which the Ooni will offer prayers for the Yoruba people, Nigeria, and humanity as a whole.

Olafare’s statement further explained, “During this time, the Ooni will undertake solemn prayers and make offerings, not only on behalf of the Yoruba race but for the peace, prosperity, and well-being of the entire nation.”
As he enters his ninth edition of the Olojo Festival, Oba Ogunwusi will emerge from seclusion on Saturday, September 28th, adorned with the sacred Crown of Oduduwa, known as ‘Ade Are,’ which is only worn once a year to mark the first day of mankind’s creation.
The Ooni also urged the Tinubu administration to increase efforts in delivering the dividends of democracy to the people, expressing hope that normalcy will return to the country soon.
