North Central APC Forum Suspends Agitation For Ganduje’s Removal As National Chairman

The North Central All Progressives Congress (APC) Forum has announced the suspension of its push for the removal of Abdullahi Ganduje as the National Chairman of the APC.

This decision comes ahead of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, where key decisions will be made regarding party leadership.

The forum had opposed Ganduje’s appointment from the outset, arguing that the position of national chairman, according to the party’s 2022 amended constitution, was supposed to go to the North Central region.

Over the past few months, the group has engaged in protests, press conferences, consultations, and even filed a lawsuit at a Federal High Court in Abuja, demanding the nullification of Ganduje’s appointment. However, the court ruled against the forum.

In a statement on Wednesday, Chairman of the North Central APC Forum, Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, explained that while their activism was rooted in regional equity, the group is not personally opposed to Ganduje.

He noted that recent peace and reconciliation efforts had prompted the forum to step down their demands in the interest of party unity and progress.

“It has been seven years of formidable struggle in defense of our geo-political zone,” Zazzaga said. “We stood in defense of the North Central, insisting that Ganduje’s predecessor, Abdullahi Adamu, should have been replaced by someone from our region. Despite the setback in court, we remain committed to the party’s progress.”

Zazzaga added that the forum would now await further decisions from the upcoming NEC meeting, trusting that the party leadership will address the region’s concerns.

The decision to suspend the agitation, he said, reflects the forum’s commitment to fairness and party unity as they prepare for the 2027 general elections.

The forum expressed hope that standing down at this time would allow North Central leaders to negotiate favorable terms and benefits for the region at the NEC.
