At least 15 people were killed on Friday in a deadly clash between residents of Mera village and members of a newly-emerged terrorist group, Lakurawa, in Kebbi State.
Grassroots Parrot reported how military authorities have confirmed the group’s existence, the group were reportedly linked to ISIS cells in the Sahel region.
The confrontation took place in the Augie local government area of Kebbi State as Lakurawa members attempted a raid on the community to steal livestock.
The attack was resisted by Mera residents after a herder raised the alarm, prompting locals to mobilize and confront the heavily armed terrorists.

In the ensuing battle, 15 people were killed, and many others sustained injuries. According to sources, the locals managed to inflict casualties on the attackers, although surviving terrorists managed to retrieve their injured and fallen as they retreated.
Following the attack, Kebbi State’s Deputy Governor, along with the Commissioner of Police and the Emir of Argungu, visited the community to offer condolences and assess the situation.
The emergence of the Lakurawa group has heightened security concerns in the state, with authorities calling for enhanced counter-terrorism efforts to protect communities along the Sahel corridor.
