Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have uncovered a consignment of cocaine cleverly concealed within religious books at a courier company in Lagos.

Grassroots Parrot reports that the illicit drug, made up of 20 parcels weighing a total of 500 grams, was intercepted on Tuesday, April 15, by officers of the Directorate of Operations and General Investigation (DOGI) during a search of export cargo bound for Saudi Arabia.

This was disclosed in a statement released by the NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, who noted that the concealment method was designed to evade detection during international shipping.

On the same day, NDLEA personnel at another Lagos-based courier firm intercepted five parcels of Loud, a potent variant of cannabis. The drug, which weighed 2.8 kilograms, was hidden inside a carton originating from the United States.

Also in Kano, a 22-year-old suspected drug courier, Muhammad Mohammed, believed to be supplying illicit substances to bandits was apprehended along the Bichi-Kano Road on Sunday, April 13, while en route to Katsina.

The suspect had 277 ampoules of pentazocine injection tied to his thighs and private parts using cellotape in an attempt to avoid detection.

That same day, another suspect, 43-year-old Mohammed Abdulrahman Abdulaziz, was arrested at Research Rimin Kebe area of Nasarawa, Kano. He was found with 68 blocks of skunk cannabis weighing 30 kilograms.

Babafemi added that at the Tincan Seaport in Lagos, NDLEA operatives arrested 40-year-old Basorun Usman Kayode, who had been on the run for two years. Kayode was allegedly linked to the 2023 importation of 107 kilograms of Loud cannabis from Canada.

Also apprehended was Dauda Yakubu, a known distributor of illicit drugs within the seaport community. He was picked up by operatives on Monday, April 14.

NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), has continued to commend the relentless efforts of the agency’s officers nationwide. He reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to intensifying the war against drug trafficking and abuse across Nigeria.
