Man Kills Ex-Girlfriend’s Mother, Injures Daughter in Borno Farm Attack

Tragedy struck in Dille District of Askira/Uba Local Government Area, Borno State, when a man, identified as Abubakar Ijidai, allegedly attacked his former girlfriend and killed her mother on their farm.

The incident occurred around 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 26, 2025, when 18-year-old Lami Azuba and her mother, 38-year-old Hauwa Azuba, were working on their farmland.

Eyewitness accounts revealed that the assailant, who is said to hail from the same district, attacked the women with a machete before fleeing the scene, leaving both victims in critical condition.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama confirmed the attack, stating that the victims were discovered in pools of blood.

According to police sources, officers from the Lassa Police Outpost promptly arrived at the scene and evacuated the victims to the General Hospital in Lassa.

“Unfortunately, Hauwa Azuba was certified dead on arrival by the attending doctor, while her daughter, Lami, was referred to the General Hospital in Mubi, Adamawa State, for advanced treatment due to the severity of her injuries,” a police report said.

The remains of Hauwa Azuba have been released to the family for burial in accordance with Christian rites.

Community members have expressed shock and anger over the incident, calling for swift justice. The police have assured that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the suspect and ensure his prosecution.
