A 38-year-old man, identified as Gabriel Iliya Magaji, reportedly committed suicide in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State following alleged hardship and his wife’s infidelity. The tragic incident occurred on Monday, September 9, 2024, when Magaji, a father of three, was found hanging in a classroom at Crystal School, Masaka.

According to reports circulating on social media, Magaji had recently discovered that some of his friends had allegedly been sleeping with his wife in exchange for money. The wife allegedly confessed that she had been engaging in these acts because her husband could no longer provide for their family due to the ongoing economic hardship in the country.

A viral Facebook post claimed, “When he confronted his wife, she admitted that she was sleeping with his friends because he couldn’t afford to bring food to the table.” The post also alleged that the money she received from these encounters was used to buy food, which was shared with her husband and their three children.

A friend of the deceased, identified as Dan Alheri, also commented on the situation, stating that Magaji was devastated when he found out his friends were “trying to date his wife.”

The spokesperson for the Nasarawa State Police Command, DSP Nansel Ramhan, confirmed the incident to journalists on Wednesday, September 11, 2024. Ramhan said the police received a report from a staff member of Crystal School in Masaka, who discovered Magaji’s body hanging in one of the classrooms at the school.

“Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) led his team to the scene, untied the corpse, and transported it to General Hospital Mararaba, where the man was confirmed dead by a doctor. The body has been deposited in the morgue,” the police spokesperson stated.

Ramhan added that no suicide note was found at the scene, and the police have launched an investigation to determine the cause of death. He noted that while there are allegations surrounding the man’s wife’s infidelity, the police have not yet confirmed whether this was the motivation behind his suicide.

The investigation into the tragic event is ongoing, and further details are expected as authorities work to unravel the circumstances surrounding Magaji’s death.
