Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 50-year-old businessman, Alhaji Nuru Isah, for allegedly beating his second wife, 24-year-old Wasila Abdullahi, to death during a domestic dispute over food ingredients and fruits designated for breaking the Ramadan fast.

The spokesperson of the command, CSP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, March 2, 2025.

According to the statement, the tragic incident occurred on the night of March 1, 2025, at about 11:30 PM in the Fadamam Mada area, near Government Girls College, Bauchi.

Preliminary investigations reveal that the altercation between the couple escalated when Isah, in a fit of rage, allegedly struck his wife with a cane, causing her to collapse and lose consciousness.

She was immediately rushed to ATBU Teaching Hospital, where medical personnel confirmed her death.

The statement further confirmed that the police have taken the suspect into custody and recovered the cane used in the assault as evidence. The deceased has been deposited at the mortuary, pending an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Musa Muhammad, assured the public that a thorough investigation is ongoing to ensure justice is served.

He reiterated the commitment of the Bauchi State Police Command to protecting lives and property while holding perpetrators of violent crimes accountable.

The police also used the opportunity to remind the public about the dangers of domestic violence, emphasizing that every individual has the right to live in a safe and secure environment.

The statement urged community members to embrace respect, empathy, and understanding in their relationships to prevent such tragic occurrences.

As investigations continue, authorities are calling for increased awareness and intervention strategies to curb domestic violence in the state.
