The Kano State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old man, Mutawakilu Ibrahim, for allegedly killing his grandparents during a quarrel at Kofar Dawanau Quarters in Dala Local Government Area of Kano State.

Police spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, September 25, 2025. He said the suspect stabbed his grandparents, Muhammad Dansokoto, 75, and Hadiza Tasidi, 65, during a disagreement over food.

According to Kiyawa, the victims sustained multiple stab wounds and were rushed to the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, where doctors confirmed them dead. Their bodies were later released to relatives for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.

“The Kano State Police Command wishes to inform the public of a tragic case of culpable homicide reported at Dala Divisional Police Headquarters. On September 25, 2025, at about 09:30am, a resident of Kofar Dawanau Quarters reported that one Mutawakilu Ibrahim had a quarrel with his grandparents over a food-related disagreement. During the altercation, the suspect allegedly used a knife to stab both victims in various parts of their bodies, causing severe injuries,” the statement read.

SP Kiyawa further revealed that preliminary investigations suggest the suspect may have been under the influence of intoxicants at the time of the attack.
