Mai Martaba, Nigeria’s official entry for the prestigious Oscars awards (2025), has recorded another milestone in its global voyage, striking an international distribution deal with a UK-based company, Plaza Mayor Company Ltd.

Plaza Mayor—one of the largest labels and music publishing companies globally—said the exclusive three-year partnership would pave the way for the global release and distribution of the Mai Martaba soundtrack.

Produced and directed by Prince Daniel Aboki, the Kannywood’s most expensive movie delves into the themes of power, love, greed, and betrayal in an ancient African kingdom that resonates with human experiences.

Earlier in December 2024, Mai Martaba had secured a partnership deal with a renowned luxury fashion house, Jamal Faris to enhance the film’s global presence, with the director and his team sporting the high-end fashion brand throughout their journey toward the Academy Awards.

The director, who confirmed the latest fortune of the epic movie on Tuesday, said Mai Martaba’s soundtrack is slated for release on January 31st, 2025.

“The original motion picture soundtrack for Mai Martaba has secured a prestigious international distribution deal with Plaza Mayor Company Ltd in the United Kingdom.

“This exclusive 3-year partnership ensures the global release of the soundtrack, set for January 31st, 2025. The partnership will see Plaza Mayor handle the global release of the soundtrack.

“Plaza Mayor is renowned for its expertise in distributing soundtracks for award-winning films, including notable titles such as The Good Postman, Day and Night, Spies of Terror, and The Shameless, among others.” He said.

He stressed further on the partnership agreement, stating that the soundtrack will be made available worldwide through prominent distribution channels such as Sony Music and The Orchard, among others, to cover about 243 countries.

Aboki, who doubles as Programs Director of Cool FM, Wazobia FM, Nigeria Info, Arewa Radio, and Kids FM across Nigeria, described the latest Mar Martaba distribution deal as a significant step in its journey to international recognition.

According to him, “fans of the film, which has already captured the attention of global audiences, will now have access to its powerful soundtrack, adding to the growing anticipation surrounding its official Oscar entry.

“With the support of Plaza Mayor and its vast distribution network, Mai Martaba continues to expand its reach and impact, bringing Nigerian cinema and music to audiences worldwide. Stay tuned as this remarkable project continues to unfold on the international stage.” He noted.
