Former Kano State Governor and leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has cautioned the Federal Government against meddling in Kano State’s internal matters.
This follows a contentious “terror alert” issued by the Kano State Police Command ahead of the Maulud celebration honoring Sheikh Ibrahim Inyass, the spiritual leader of the Tijjaniyya Sufi Order.
Kwankwaso raised concerns about the timing and potential impact of the alert, which he labeled as reckless and unprofessional.
In a statement released via his official X handle, the NNPP leader congratulated the Tijjaniyya Sufi Order for successfully hosting the event at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano.

He also commended His Royal Highness, Khalifa Muhammad Sanusi II, the Emir of Kano, and Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for ensuring the occasion was a success.
However, Kwankwaso criticized the police warning, stating, “This alert not only jeopardized the success of the gathering but also put the lives of the people of Kano and attendees from other countries at risk by creating palpable fear.”
The former governor alleged that the police acted as accomplices in what he termed the Federal Government’s habitual interference in Kano State’s affairs.
He warned that such actions undermine public trust in law enforcement, noting that false alerts could lead people to dismiss genuine warnings in the future.

“The conduct of the police leadership in Kano also leaves a bad impression of the Nigeria Police Force globally,” Kwankwaso added, emphasizing the need for professionalism and impartiality in police operations.
Kwankwaso reiterated his call for the Federal Government to respect Kano State’s autonomy, urging it to avoid creating unnecessary tensions.
“For the umpteenth time, I urge the Federal Government to avoid dragging itself into unpleasant situations by further meddling in affairs strictly under the jurisdiction of Kano State,” he concluded.
