Panic gripped residents of the Gadar Lado area along Zaria Road in Kano on Monday after an unidentified man scaled a tall billboard in what is suspected to be a suicide attempt.

According to eyewitness accounts, the man climbed the giant billboard and has remained perched at the top for over an hour, speaking inaudibly to himself. The bizarre scene quickly attracted a large crowd, causing a serious traffic gridlock in the busy area.

“The man has been up there for over an hour now. No one knows why he climbed it. I was just passing by when I saw the crowd and decided to check”.

“The police are trying hard to control the crowd so that traffic can move,” said Mujahid Ameenu, a bystander who spoke to DAILY POST.

As of the time of this report, security operatives have arrived at the scene and are making efforts to manage the situation and prevent any harm from coming to the man.

The area remains tense, with onlookers speculating about the man’s motives, with many suggesting economic hardship could be a factor.

Authorities are yet to confirm the identity of the man or the reasons behind his actions. Efforts to persuade him to come down safely are ongoing.

More details to follow as the situation unfolds.
