The Kano State Commissioner for Women, Children, and the Disabled, Hajiya Aisha Lawan Saji, is seeking justice for the late Rumaisa Sadiq, a 9-year-old girl who was allegedly raped to death by a chemist operator in the Jaba, Fanisau area of Kano State.

According to eyewitnesses, the unnamed chemist operator subjected the young girl to brutal physical abuse, leading to her death. The victim’s father, Alhaji Sadiq, recounted that he had taken his daughter to the chemist for treatment of malaria. Instead of providing medical care, the chemist allegedly inflicted fatal sexual abuse on the minor.

The tragic incident has left the deceased’s mother in deep shock, struggling to come to terms with the loss of her daughter. On Sunday, Commissioner Saji visited the grieving family to offer her condolences and pledged to ensure that justice is served.

Saji condemned the heinous act, describing it as inhumane and vowed to follow up on the case until a logical conclusion is reached. She emphasized the need for swift justice, both to honour Rumaisa’s memory and to serve as a deterrent to others who might contemplate such acts of violence.

The case, which is already before a court of law, has garnered attention from various human rights organizations, according to Nafisa Salisu Ahmad, Founder of the Hidaya Ahmad VVF Aid Foundation.

Ahmad, who brought the case to the Commissioner’s attention, expressed hope that justice will prevail despite attempts by some individuals to obscure or divert the course of the investigation.

In a statement from the Ministry of Women, Children, and the Disabled, Saji reiterated the Kano State Government’s commitment under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to pursue the case to its conclusion.

She stated, “Despite moves by some individuals to infuse diverters into the reported case of fatal abuse against 9-year-old Rumaisa Sadiq, there must be justice for the late victim and her family. The full and quick dispensation of justice in this case is necessary to serve as a lesson and deterrence to others.”

During her visit, Saji conveyed the governor’s condolences to the bereaved family and provided assistance, including a 50kg bag of rice, a bag of maize, a carton of macaroni, and a gallon of vegetable oil.

The Kano State Government’s firm stance on this case reflects its broader commitment to protecting the rights of women, children, and the disabled, ensuring that perpetrators of such violent acts are held accountable.
