The Kano State Police Command has announced the arrest of 28 suspected thugs following a coordinated three-day operation aimed at curbing street violence and other criminal activities across the state.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Command said the arrests were made between Saturday, July 12, and Monday, July 14, during what it described as a “successful clearance operation” under Operation Kukan Kura — a community-oriented policing initiative designed to enhance public participation in crime prevention and control.
Led personally by the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, the operation targeted several hotspots within Kano metropolis known for thug activity. According to the police, the initiative yielded notable results, including the recovery of dangerous weapons and illicit drugs.

“No incidents of undetected mobile phone robbery or theft were recorded throughout the state during the exercise,” the police spokesperson added, highlighting the success of the operation.
Commissioner Bakori praised his officers for their professionalism and urged them to remain steadfast in their duty to protect lives and property. He also reiterated the importance of maintaining momentum in the fight against crime.
“The Commissioner of Police commended the officers for their commitment and dedication to duty, charging them to sustain the tempo in ensuring the safety and security of lives and property in Kano State,” the statement noted.

The police also emphasized the role of community involvement in the operation’s success, describing it as a demonstration of the command’s responsiveness to local concerns.
“The success of Operation Kukan Kura is a testament to the Command’s resolve to engage with the community and work collaboratively to prevent and control crimes,” the statement read.
Residents were urged to continue supporting security efforts by promptly reporting any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
