Kano Govt Reopens Informatics Institute With 250 Students

The Kano government has reopened the Informatics Institute, Kura, with 250 new intake for continuation of academic activities.

The institute was closed down by the administration of former Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje in the past eight years.

Gov. Abba Kabir-Yusuf made the declaration during the formal presentation of Letters of Admission to the 250 new students, on Thursday in Kura.

He said the school would begin academic activities without delay, and reitrated his commitment to reopen all institutions of learning shut down by the previous administration in the state.

The governor said the institute established 12 years ago by former Gov. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, was designed to train youths in Information Technology, to avail them opportunities to rise to the challenges of modern communication technology.

“This moment is significant because we are concerned about the issue of education and information technology in Kano State.

“Let me also inform you that many graduates of the institute have made significant strides in their careers and are employed in various parastals, companies, ministries not only in Kano State but across the globe.

“The institute is designed to meet the requirements and enhance digital economy,” he said.

According to Kabir-Yusuf, the reopening of the institute aligns with his administration’s broader vision for digital economy in the state.

“The institute has played a significant role in advancing information technology in Northern region, contributing to the professional development of the students and enhancing their impact on key sectors of the economy,” he said.

While congratulating the staff and students of the institute, Kabir-Yusuf pledged more support to fasttrack sustainable development of the school.

“Let me assure all our students and indeed the citizens of the state that this institute will once again be the center of excellence where our young people would be trained in different aspects of information technology, empowering them to become leaders in the digital economy, by the grace of Allah”.

Also speaking,  the Director of the institute, Mutassim Uba-Adamu, while announcing commencement of academic activities, pledged to attain higher academic accreditation for the institute.

Uba-Adamu said the the institute would begin an Adult literacy Programme among other IT relevant courses.

He listed the courses to include Information and Communication Technology; Machine Learning, Robotics, Intercom Installations, Security Door Installation, Fire Alarm Installations, CCTV and VSAT Installations, Wire and Wireless Installation, among others.

While calling for the restoration of staff salaries, Uba-Adamu advocated for recruitment of qualified teachers in the institute.

The Commissioner for Science and Technology, Tajuddeen Zaura said the institute was focusing on Infor-Tech related courses to brighten the future of the younger generation. (NAN)
