The Kano State Government has declared Thursday, June 26, 2025, as a public holiday in celebration of the Islamic New Year, Hijrah 1447 AH.
This announcement was made in a statement issued by the state Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf congratulated Muslims across the state for witnessing the beginning of the new Islamic calendar year, which commences with the sacred month of Muharram.

He urged the Muslim faithful and the general public to use the occasion as a time for sober reflection on their deeds over the past year and to offer prayers for continued peace, unity, and prosperity in Kano State and the nation at large.
Governor Yusuf emphasized the importance of upholding Islamic values of compassion, justice, and community service as the new year begins.
