The Kano State Government has approved a 25 per cent and 35 per cent salary increase for academic and non-academic staff of tertiary institutions effective March 2025.

The announcement was made on Thursday by the Commissioner for Information, Abdullahi Waiya, while briefing journalists on the outcome of the State Executive Council meeting in Kano.

Mr. Waiya emphasized that the decision acknowledges the vital role of staff in advancing the state’s educational sector and overall development.

He noted that the salary adjustment aligns with the government’s commitment to improving workers’ welfare and supporting broader educational reforms.

In addition to the salary increment, the council approved N3.3 billion for various developmental projects across the state.

Among the projects, N148.9 million was earmarked for maintaining the School of Technology road network by the Kano Road Maintenance Agency (KARMA).

Furthermore, N367.9 million was approved as an advance payment for the expansion of Zaria Road, from Silver Jubilee to Dantata & Sawoe main yard.

The council also allocated N612.4 million for converting external electrical infrastructure to an underground system at Government House and relocating power lines along Ahmadu Bello Way.

In its commitment to improving healthcare services, the government approved N184 million for the procurement of two ambulances for the Government House Clinic and Nuhu Bamalli Maternity Hospital.

To ensure uninterrupted power supply, the council allocated N348 million to settle energy bills to Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) for November and December 2024.

Additionally, N662 million was approved for feeding students in boarding schools during the 3rd to 5th weeks of the current academic term.

The council further approved N100 million for the Nigeria Union of Pensioners to host its Quadrennial Delegates Conference in Kano.

The series of approvals and allocations highlight the state government’s ongoing commitment to infrastructure, education, and social welfare enhancements. The government aims to sustain these efforts to improve the overall quality of life for Kano residents.
