The Kano State Government has announced that the ongoing recertification of landed properties in the state will conclude on January 31, 2025. Following this deadline, the current Certificates of Occupancy (C-of-Os) will no longer be valid.
This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Land and Physical Planning, Alhaji Abduljabbar Mohammed, during a press conference held in his office on Wednesday.
He urged all landowners across the state to promptly proceed to the Ministry of Land and Physical Planning to register their properties.
“As part of this transformation, all current C-of-Os will be rendered invalid at the expiration of this exercise on the 31st of January, 2025,” the Commissioner stated.

Alhaji Mohammed emphasized that the recertification process aligns with the reforms introduced by the Abba Yusuf administration.
To facilitate these reforms, the Kano State Geographic Information System (KANGIS) has been equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure.
This development aims to make obtaining land documents more affordable and seamless while enhancing the security and strength of land titles across the state.
The Commissioner’s remarks reinforced an earlier announcement by Governor Abba Yusuf, who inaugurated the KANGIS building in November.
The governor had highlighted the significance of the digital certification system in transforming land administration in the state.

He said the new system of certification is digital and will offer a lot of benefits, including the provision of accurate and reliable records while eliminating manual processes and thereby minimizing errors, manipulation of land files and titles, and delays in processing transactions that make land ownership verification and updates more straightforward.
“The new certificates are designed with advanced security features, rendering them virtually impossible to forge. This will ensure the integrity of property rights while significantly reducing incidents of fraud by criminals,” Alhaji Mohammed said.
He further urged all landowners in Kano State to prioritize the recertification process, noting that it is essential for maintaining accurate and secure ownership records.

“This process guarantees that ownership records are accurate, secure, and protected from future disputes, thereby safeguarding the investments and aspirations of our people,” he added.
Landowners are advised to visit the Ministry of Land and Physical Planning promptly to complete their recertification and secure their property titles under the new system.
