The Kano State Government has set up a seven-member committee tasked with repatriating Almajiri children to their respective states of origin.
The committee, led by Commander General of the Hisba Board, Sheikh Ibrahim Daurawa, was inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Abdullahi Bichi, on behalf of Governor Abba Yusuf.
The move aims to address security risks posed by large groups of street children, some of whom occupy public and private buildings where crimes are reportedly planned.

Dr. Bichi expressed concerns over the influx of individuals from regions affected by insecurity, such as banditry and kidnapping, into Kano.
He stressed the importance of maintaining the security and peaceful environment of the state, declaring the government’s commitment to clearing Kano of potential crime.
“The committee’s role includes developing plans to repatriate these children back to their states and local government areas of origin,” Bichi said.

Responding on behalf of the committee, Sheikh Daurawa pointed to recent protests where street children reportedly engaged in destructive activities, underscoring the urgent need for action.
He noted that the Hisba Board had identified locations occupied by homeless individuals, where many children are born and raised under poor conditions, prompting the board to request the establishment of the committee.
