Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has denied any rift between him and his political godfather, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, saying their relationship remains cordial.

The Daily Nigerian had reported that the crisis in the ruling New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, in Kano took a new twist as Governor Abba Yusuf posted out the permanent secretary Special Duties, Aminu Kura, in the Office of the Deputy Governor as well as the permanent secretary in the Ministry of Local Government, Ibrahim Kabara.

The medium also quoted a source familiar with the development that the deputy governor was not consulted before the new posting.

According to the Daily Nigerian, “The relationship between the governor and his deputy further receded, following a drug procurement scandal involving Novomed, a pharmaceutical company owned by Musa Garba Kwankwaso, a nephew to the national leader of the party.”

It was also rumored that the governor ignored over 30 missed calls from his leader, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso.

But the governor, in an interview broadcast live on some local media in Kano on Wednesday night, made it clear that he was not interested in separating from the leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement or the group’s ideology.

Governor Abba described the rumor of the purported conflict between him and Kwankwaso as baseless, thanking the latter—his father-in-law—for his support so far in his political career.

The governor said that if not for the respect and love he has for journalists, he would have sued the media that published the story that he was ignoring Kwankwaso phone calls to court.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf also warned those spreading false information and seeking to create division between him and Kwankwaso against the move, insisting that they would not succeed.

The governor specifically cautioned those that are advising him to stand on his feet as an executive governor to desist from such an act if they truly love him and his administration.

He, however, reassured the good people of Kano that his administration will not lose its focus on governing the state effectively.
