The Kano State government has disbursed checks of over N1.9 billion to the Chairmen of the Community Re-orientation Committee (CRC) for the renovation of primary school classrooms across all 44 local government areas in the state.

The state governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, also set aside over N2.9 billion for the construction of additional classrooms in public primary schools.

He also initiated the immediate employment of 17,600 security guards, with a minimum of 400 guards allocated to each local government area to protect public schools.

The governor said the move was strategic to bolster security and safeguard public educational facilities in the state, according to a statement by the governor’s spokesman, Sanusi Bature, on Wednesday.

The statement quoted the governor as confirming the approvals during a meeting with CRC chairmen at the Government House.

According to him, investing in education is a pivotal step towards ensuring that quality education is accessible to every school-age child in Kano.

Acknowledging the vital role played by CRCs in fostering social integration and enhancing enrollment and attendance rates in schools, Governor Yusuf reiterated the government’s pledge to empower community leaders to take ownership of the education system and protect public infrastructure.

He called upon the CRC committees to collaborate closely with stakeholders within their jurisdictions and seek guidance from the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) for technical support in project implementation.

Furthermore, Governor Yusuf mandated the CRC chairmen to ensure that all new classroom blocks bear the inscription “Kwankwasiyya/Gida-Gida” as a tribute to Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso’s significant contributions to public education in Kano.

Highlighting the achievements of his administration in various sectors over the past year, Governor Yusuf urged all stakeholders to harmonize their efforts towards creating a future built on a foundation of quality education for present and future generations.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf emphasized the critical role of education as the cornerstone of a flourishing society, pledging to address the pressing need for repairs and renovations in schools to create a safe and conducive learning environment for students.
