Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has instructed all four Emirates in the state to commence preparations for the upcoming Sallah Durbar celebration, ensuring a vibrant and enjoyable festive season for both residents and visitors.

This directive was announced in a statement by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, following a Ramadan breakfast meeting with the Emirs at the Ante Chamber, Government House, Kano, on Tuesday.

Governor Yusuf highlighted the significance of the Sallah Durbar, emphasizing the excitement it brings to the people of Kano, who eagerly anticipate donning new clothes, gathering along the streets to watch their Emirs on horseback, and exchanging warm greetings.

He reassured the public that his administration remains committed to upholding this cherished tradition and will not allow any disruptions.

To ensure a smooth celebration, he pledged that security agencies across the state would be fully engaged to provide adequate protection.

The Governor also announced that the Kano State Emirate Council will be formally inaugurated in April, enabling it to function effectively.

He added that the council’s guidelines, ethics, and other essential regulations will be outlined during the inauguration ceremony.

Commending the Emirs for their cooperation and unity, Governor Yusuf noted that this is the first time in the state’s history that such mutual respect and harmony exist among the Emirs, particularly concerning their hierarchical structure.

In response, the Chairman of the Kano Emirate Council, Malam Muhammadu Sanusi II, affirmed the cordial relationship between him and the second-class Emirs.

He urged the Governor to utilize traditional institutions as a means of effectively disseminating government policies and programs to the grassroots for seamless implementation.

The Emirs of Karaye, Muhammad Muhammad Maharaz; Rano, Amb. Muhammad Isa Umaru; and Gaya, Dr. Aliyu Ibrahim Abdulkadir, on behalf of their people, expressed gratitude to Governor Yusuf for his administration’s efforts in providing fertilizer, improving education and healthcare infrastructure, and enhancing road networks within their respective domains.
