The chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, Muhuyi Magaji, has launched an investigation into an alleged scam that rocked the empowerment of street hawkers by the Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, last week.
The probe comes after a viral video exposed the fraudulent activities of officials who allegedly coerced beneficiaries into surrendering a significant portion of the N50,000 grants received during a recent ceremony.
One Nura Isa confessed before a suspected female investigator that shortly after the ceremony, “we were cornered in batches by certain officials to drop N45,000 from the N50,000 cash given to us in the public glare.”

Isa explained in a 60-second video, “We are 100 in our batch that were cornered by the officials under the strict watch of his boys to comply in our own interest.”
The commission’s chairman, Muhuyi Magaji, assured the public that a thorough investigation is ongoing to identify and bring to justice those responsible, regardless of their position or influence within the government.
“We are determined to prevent corruption from undermining the integrity of the empowerment initiative,” Magaji said.
It was gathered that most of the original beneficiaries were denied access to the coronation hall, where the event took place with impersonators.
