The Umar Namadi-led Jigawa State Government has dismissed 22 vendors and companies participating in the state’s Ramadan Iftar feeding programme over alleged cheating, poor food quality, and questionable financial practices.
The decision followed reports from monitoring teams and public complaints which revealed misconduct barely two weeks after the programme began.
The initiative, designed to support vulnerable residents during the 2026 Ramadan period, targets about 7.9 million beneficiaries across 640 free meal centres in the state.

According to the Jigawa State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Special Duties, the affected vendors were removed for gross misconduct, mismanagement of public funds, and poor handling of the programme, including serving incomplete food portions, poor-tasting meals, and failing to pay cooks.
Commissioner Auwalu Sankara said the government maintains a zero-tolerance policy for any act that undermines the humanitarian programme.
He added that the dismissed vendors would be replaced with new contractors to ensure the initiative continues smoothly.
Sankara stressed that the action demonstrates the government’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and the welfare of Jigawa residents during the holy month of Ramadan.
