The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja, has formally announced his complete withdrawal from politics, declaring that his new role as monarch requires full dedication to his people.

Oba Ladoja, a former governor of Oyo State, made the disclosure on Tuesday during a courtesy visit to his palace by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, former Senate President Iyorchia Ayu, and other notable political figures.

The monarch, who once played an active role in Nigeria’s political landscape, said his enthronement as the Olubadan marked the end of his political journey.

“I am no more one of you. I am not a politician anymore. Welcome to my house,” he said, addressing his guests. “Now that I am the Olubadan, I am no longer interested in anything other than the Olubadan.”

Reflecting on his political journey, Oba Ladoja recalled his experiences alongside Atiku and others, citing their days in the Social Democratic Party (SDP), years in exile, and later alignment in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He also mentioned his decision to establish the Accord Party, which gained prominence in Oyo State.

Despite bowing out of politics, the Olubadan assured his visitors and the people of Ibadanland that he would use his stool to champion justice and fairness.

“All the religious leaders said that the only thing they can do is promote justice and fairness. I will serve my people: Ibadan, Oyo State, Africa, and the world. I will depend on your support and advice,” he said.
