A middle-aged woman, identified as Ramatu, lost her life on Wednesday evening after being crushed by a trailer while returning from her farm in Abaji Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The tragic incident occurred at about 5:12 p.m. near the Con Oil filling station along the Lokoja–Abuja highway.

An eyewitness told newsmen that the accident happened when the trailer driver, coming from the Lokoja axis, attempted to avoid a pothole but lost control of the vehicle. In the process, the trailer ran over the motorcycle on which Ramatu was riding, killing her on the spot and leaving the rider seriously injured.

According to the witness, Ramatu was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors later confirmed her dead, while the injured motorcyclist is currently receiving treatment.

An official of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), who was part of the rescue operation, confirmed the incident. He disclosed that the woman was rescued alive but died while receiving medical attention at the hospital.

The FRSC official added that the trailer driver fled the scene immediately after the crash but was later apprehended by security operatives near Gada Buyi village along the highway. He has since been handed over to the police for further investigation.

Authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution, especially along the Abaji–Lokoja road, which has been notorious for potholes and frequent accidents.
