Dr. Aishatu Bala Mohammed, wife of the Bauchi State Governor, has narrated a disturbing case of abuse involving a father who repeatedly sexually abuse his biological daughter, leading to pregnancy twice.

Speaking during a media briefing on the state’s efforts to combat sexual and gender-based violence, Dr. Aishatu described how the abuse began after the daughter, initially separated from her father, was reunited with him following her mother’s death.

According to Dr. Aishatu, the girl had been in her mother’s custody after the parents separated. However, the girl, bullied by peers for not having a father, pleaded with her mother to reconnect her with him. The mother eventually agreed and remarried the father, leaving the daughter in his care.

The father reportedly assaulted the girl on several occasions, leaving her pregnant. When the girl complained to her mother, the father admitted to his actions when confronted.

The abuse worsened after the mother tragically passed away from stroke following childbirth. With her maternal family rejecting her and taking custody of her sibling, the daughter had no choice but to return to her father’s home.

The father’s sexual abuse continued, despite marrying another woman. When the girl confided in her stepmother about the abuse, the stepmother confronted him, and left the marriage. However, the abuse persisted, resulting in another pregnancy.

The situation came to light after concerned neighbors reported the father to the Hisbah Board in Kano. He was subsequently arrested and sentenced to seven years in prison.

The Bauchi State Government has taken custody of the young woman, providing her with education, financial support, and a secure environment to aid her recovery.

Dr. Aishatu also shared a second case involving a mother who forced her daughter into prostitution, using charms to ensure her compliance. The victim has since been rescued and is now receiving care and support under the state’s action committee.

Dr. Aishatu expressed grave concern about the rising cases of abuse in the state and reiterated the government’s commitment to protecting victims and holding perpetrators accountable.

“These cases are heartbreaking and demand immediate action. We must unite as a community to fight against these injustices and create a safe environment for all,” she said.

The Bauchi State Government continues to intensify efforts to combat abuse and gender-based violence, ensuring survivors receive the justice and support they deserve.
