A herbalist, Ismail Usman, has sustained life-threatening injuries on November 23 in Kuchibuyi village, Abuja, while testing a self-made ‘bulletproof’ charm.
Usman reportedly fortified himself with the charm and fired a locally fabricated gun at his stomach, only for the charm to fail and was severely injured.
He was rushed to Kubwa General Hospital by officers from the Byazhin Police Division and later transferred to Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital for advanced treatment.

The FCT police spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, confirmed the incident, revealing that a distress call from a resident led officers to the scene.
She disclosed that police recovered the homemade gun and various charms during a search of Usman’s residence.
Adeh stated that Usman would face charges of unlawful possession of firearms and attempted suicide under Section 231 of the Penal Code.
FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, condemned the incident, emphasizing the dangers of illegal firearms and reckless practices. Investigations into the case are ongoing.
