Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State left the state for Abuja on Tuesday, as tensions within the ruling New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) continue to escalate.
His departure follows a series of political disputes, including the suspension of two key officials in his administration.
On Monday evening, Governor Yusuf had overseen a reconciliation between the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, and disgruntled members of his constituency.
However, despite this effort, the NNPP suspended Bichi and the Commissioner of Transportation, Muhammad Diggol, citing allegations of abuse of power and disloyalty to the party.

Governor Yusuf waited at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport for about two hours before flying out to Abuja, amid reports that Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, the NNPP leader, was in Kano holding meetings with key party figures, including the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Jibril Falgore, and local government stakeholders.
Kwankwaso, however, declined to comment on the ongoing issues, directing inquiries to the party chairman.
Tensions within the NNPP have been rising, with some party loyalists and opposition groups calling for Governor Yusuf’s “freedom” from what they describe as the heavy influence of Kwankwaso.

These groups allege that Kwankwaso has been effectively controlling the administration and decision-making in the state, leading to calls for Yusuf to be allowed to fully exercise his powers as governor.
The situation remains uncertain as the NNPP grapples with internal discord, with further developments expected in the coming days.
