Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has inaugurated an 11-member investigative panel to probe the alleged sale of the Nigerian Meat and Allied Products (NIMAP) Abattoir during the administration of former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
The abattoir, located in the Chalawa Industrial Area of Kano, was originally established under former Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to generate revenue and provide employment opportunities.
Speaking during the inauguration on Wednesday at the Cabinet Office, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Umar Faruq Ibrahim, said the probe was necessary to safeguard public assets.
“The present administration has the responsibility to protect critical state infrastructure illegally auctioned for selfish interests,” Ibrahim stated.

The panel is chaired by the former chairman of the State Anti-Corruption Agency, Barrister Muhuyi Magaji Rimin-Gado. It is tasked with reviewing all documents related to the sale, determining whether due process was followed, recovering lost assets, and recommending punitive measures against those found culpable.
According to the SSG, the committee is also expected to propose steps toward establishing a modern meat processing plant that meets international standards.
In his response, Rimin-Gado pledged that the committee would carry out its duties with fairness and diligence. “We will discharge this responsibility without fear or favor,” he assured.
