The Kano State Government has launched the Kano State Neighbourhood Watch Corps as part of renewed efforts to strengthen security at the grassroots and enhance public safety across the state.
The corps, made up of 2,000 personnel, was inaugurated during a colourful ceremony held at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano, with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf presiding over the event alongside top officials of various national security agencies operating in the state.
According to information made available, the Neighbourhood Watch Corps was established to complement the activities of conventional security agencies through improved surveillance, protection of lives and property, and effective community-level security operations.
The newly inaugurated outfit is composed largely of youths who have undergone training in basic security operations, intelligence gathering, and coordination with the police and other security agencies, with the aim of preventing crimes before they occur.

The state government disclosed that members of the corps will be deployed across all local government areas, with special attention given to markets, schools, residential neighbourhoods, and other critical public spaces.
It stressed that the initiative forms part of broader measures being implemented by the present administration to ensure lasting peace, curb criminal activities, and restore public confidence in community safety.
The government also appealed to residents to give maximum cooperation and support to the Neighbourhood Watch Corps, noting that community participation and timely information sharing are key to the success of the initiative in safeguarding lives and maintaining peace in Kano State.
