Gov. Yusuf Constitutes Kano State Consumer Protection Council

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved the composition of the Kano State Consumer Protection Council (KSCPC) in a move to safeguard the rights and interests of consumers across the state.

A statement issued on Saturday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa, announced that the newly formed council comprises seasoned professionals, government officials, and business representatives.

The council is tasked with ensuring fair trade practices and protecting consumers from exploitation.

According to the statement, the council will be chaired by Umar Garba Haruna, with Zangina Jafaru serving as the Executive Secretary. Other appointed members include:

  • Sadiya Bichi (representing Kano North)
  • Hussaini Gidado (representing Kano South)
  • Munzali Abubakar (representing Business Community I – Kantin Kwari Market)
  • Ali Adakawa (representing Business Community II – Kwanar Singa)
  • Ahmed Chedi (representing Business Community III – Dawanau Market)
  • Sani Gambo (representing Business Community IV – Abubakar Rimi Market)
  • Halima Ahmad (representing Ministry of Justice)
  • Salisu Ahmad (representing Ministry of Health)
  • Aminu Yushe’u (representing Ministry of Environment)
  • Bashir Gezawa (representing Ministry of Local Government)
  • Maryam Haruna (Director Special Duties, Ministry of Women Affairs)
  • Bashir Uba (Director Investment, Ministry of Investment/Commerce)
  • Faisal Mahmud (representing Ministry of Transportation)
  • Umar Zubairu (representing Special Service Directorate)
  • Shamsu Jibrin (Secretary/Legal Adviser)

Governor Yusuf emphasized that the council’s primary mandate is to protect consumer rights and ensure businesses operate under fair, transparent, and lawful conditions.

He noted that the initiative aligns with his administration’s commitment to promoting good governance, enhancing market confidence, and protecting the public from substandard products and unethical business practices.

The governor directed the council to commence operations immediately to address consumer complaints, regulate trade practices, and foster a healthy business environment in Kano State.
