The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Monday, September 16, 2024, as a public holiday to commemorate Eid-ul-Mawlid, which marks the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement issued by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, on Friday. Dr. Tunji-Ojo congratulated the Muslim Ummah across the country on the occasion, calling for reflection, prayers, and unity.
In his message, the minister urged the Muslim community and all Nigerians to seize the opportunity of the festive period to pray for lasting peace and a more prosperous and just nation. He emphasized the importance of fostering a spirit of patience, sacrifice, and resilience as the country navigates its challenges.

Eid-ul-Mawlid is an important day in the Islamic calendar, celebrated by Muslims globally in honor of the birth of Prophet Muhammad, who is regarded as a model of faith, integrity, and compassion.
The declaration of the public holiday is in line with the government’s recognition of religious observances, as well as its commitment to promoting peace, unity, and development across the country.
Authorities have also called on citizens to celebrate responsibly, ensuring that peace and harmony are maintained during the period.
