Controversial Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has stirred fresh debate after releasing a blistering prayer calling on God to expose and punish all individuals benefiting from or supporting terrorism in Nigeria.
Gumi, in a strongly worded prayer shared on his Facebook page on Thursday, asked Allah to unleash divine judgment on those behind the nation’s persistent insecurity, bloodshed, and terror network.
Quoting directly from his post, the Kaduna-based cleric wrote:
“My prayer today: Ya Allah! Whoever initiated or is behind this insecurity and bloodbath in Nigeria, whether foreign or citizen, or has any benefit, material or otherwise, or is even happy that people are being killed, or willingly did nothing to stop it, may by Your divine power be exposed and Your anger poured upon them and punished immediately without harm to the innocent.”

Gumi’s prayer comes at a time of heightened anxiety over alleged high-level complicity in terrorism and the growing sophistication of armed groups tormenting several parts of the country.
The cleric—often criticised for his controversial outreach to bandits and armed groups—has long insisted that he does not support criminals, maintaining that his engagements are focused on mediation, dialogue, and peaceful conflict resolution.
In November, Gumi attributed Nigeria’s enduring insurgency to the vulnerability of millions of uneducated and unemployed youths, who he said are easily recruited and manipulated by individuals he described as “enemies of the state.”
