Barely eight days after receiving a pardon from Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, a former inmate, Sunday Omisakin, has found himself back in custody.

Omisakin, who was listed as number eight on the governor’s prerogative of mercy list on December 26, 2024, was arrested on January 3, 2025, for allegedly burgling a residence in Osogbo and stealing a plasma television valued at N600,000.

The suspect was arraigned before the Osun State Magistrate Court in Osogbo, presided over by Magistrate Adekanmi Adeyeba, on charges of burglary and theft.

According to police prosecutor Inspector Kayode Adeoye, the incident occurred at about 12:00 p.m. in the Al-Medinat Area, Iludun, Osogbo. Omisakin allegedly broke into the residence of Shittu Damilare and made away with the plasma television.

The prosecution charged Omisakin with offenses contrary to and punishable under sections 411(1)(2), 363, and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap 34, Vol. II, Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002.

Omisakin, however, pleaded not guilty. His counsel, Najite Okobe, urged the court to grant him bail on liberal terms.

The prosecutor opposed the bail application, emphasizing that Omisakin had been recently pardoned by the governor for a minor offense and had not completed his initial jail term, as sentenced by Magistrate Olusegun Ayilara.

In her ruling, Magistrate Adeyeba ordered Omisakin’s remand in the Ilesa Correctional Facility, denying his bail request.

The case was adjourned to January 10, 2025, for further proceedings, with a subsequent hearing set for February 2025.
